| In this article, the monthly fields of sea surface temperature and total cloudiness over the North pacific are resolved into some empirical orthogonal polynomials. The relationship between these elements and some El Niño phenomena, particularly the El Nino in 1982-1983, has been emphasized. In addition,other elements, such as trade wind over the North pacific, Southern Oscillation Index and Antarctic sea ice, etc., are also mentioned. |
